Communications Officer sought as part of a programme that advocates labour rights in Sabah.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing communications plans.
- Developing and implementing strategies to enhance, and as needed refine, SERATA’s brand.
- Managing the SERATA’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube)
- Analysing and reporting on communications performance metrics.
- Producing annual reports and other publications.
- Sharing relevant news and trends to the rest of SERATA team and Exco
- Handling media relations activities, including organising media events and developing key messages, news releases, statements and backgrounders.
- Contributing content for different tools (web, newsletters, social media, speeches, editorials, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Administrative Officer and Project Officer as needed to run fundraising programmes or promote paid programs for SERATA
- Support Program Intern hiring, training, and management as directed by the President or Vice President
- Perform other duties and tasks as required to drive SERATA’s vision, mission, and values.
Qualifications
- University degree in journalism, marketing, communications or related field
- Professional experience in marketing/communications and project management preferably with a nonprofit organization.
- Proficiency in both English and Bahasa Melayu (oral and written) is required
- Proven ability to write clear, concise and compelling prose — articles, press releases, op-eds, ad copy, blog posts and email alerts etc.
- Demonstrated success in writing, editing and coordinating production of publications to tight deadlines
- Demonstrates copy editing skills, strong attention to detail is desired
- Applicable knowledge of relevant computer software (Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workplace)
- Highly organised and works well independently
- Adaptable and flexible to evolving work requirements
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite an asset
